The Great Laptop Debacle!

Hello, and welcome back to the blog! This post is to let you know where I'm at with regards to what I'm calling The Great Laptop Debacle! (As you can see from the title of this post!)

For those of you who may not know, my former laptop - only a few years old - decided to die on me. The cause? Corrosion and water damage, although I've never spilled any liquid on it. We've had very rainy, damp weather here all year here in South East Queensland, Australia (where I live), so that may or may not have had something to do with it...

This was devastating for me, because my computer is literally what keeps me sane! In addition to poor physical health, I have also had anxiety and depression for decades, and the computer, and especially the designing gives me something positive to focus on, and is a form of therapy for me.

I'm on a low government payment, so I honestly had no idea how I would be able to replace my laptop, as it had taken me months and months to save up for it originally. Then when it was finally ordered, Covid hit, and the laptop was sitting in a dockside container for 8 months, until shipping eventually re-started.

I've been going to the same computer shop for over 20 years, and have built up a really good relationship with the guys there. They could see how badly this was affecting me, so they got together to work out how best they could help me out.

They researched the laptops currently available that would fit my graphics-heavy requirements (for designing), yet still be cost-effective for my limited budget, as well as having a 17+ screen size (to cater for my eyesight), and worked out a couple of different options for me.

With the result being... I now have a new laptop, which they have let me take home on no deposit, and I will be just paying it off when I can, in whatever amounts I can afford at the time. They know my financial situation, and they trust me. But the icing on the cake is... they're not making a cent off me, because they're giving me the laptop at cost price. Unbelievable!

Quite honestly, I still don't know how much it's going to cost, as every time I ask them, they just say not to worry, and they'll make up the bill sometime!

When I brought the new laptop home, I fired it up... and was so disappointed when I saw that the screen had a yellowish tinge to it. The guys said it looked fine to them in the shop, but they weren't looking at it with a design perspective, where the colours simply have to look right.

After much tweaking of settings (which unfortunately didn't help at all), they finally installed a program called AMD Software Adrenalin Edition, which has actually fixed the problem! It has so many settings that you can adjust, and now my display looks exactly how I want it to.

Here's the link, in case anyone would like to try it, or even just find out a bit more about it:

Now that I have updated you on what's been going on in my neck of the woods, you can expect to see more posts on this blog, starting with the next Digital Scrapbook blog train!

So, make sure you come back here on May 01 2024, for a 15-kit bundle, which is my part of the blog train!
